Sanitary precautions and health services
We recommend that you don't drink tap water. If you order juices, ask that they be prepared with milk instead of water, without ice. Most cities now have potable drinking water from the tap but, as a traveler, you still won't be accustomed to the different bacteria a tropical country has. Drink bottled water when possible.

Medical Emergencies and Health Services
The network of preventative and curative health in Colombia is comprehensive. Emergency medical services are of the highest quality with specialists available in the different areas of medicine 24 hours/day.

It's important to have International health coverage that you can purchase in your country of origin. It's also best that you understand and know the type and coverage of your health plan as there are clinics that attend international health plan users and companies that cover much of the world.

If you have an emergency, try to get to the Red Cross or private clinics. Public health services and hospitals can be used in case of extreme necessity.

Many people travel from all over the world for orthodoncy treatments here in Colombia. They're of the best quality and the costs here are much lower compared to North America and Europe.

Purchasing Medication:
In drug stores and pharmacies, you can purchase the majority of medication without a problem with the exception of those medications that require a medical prescription. Verify the expiration date of any medication you purchase.

There are drug stores and pharmacies that take turns, offering 24 hour service, weekend service, and service on the holidays.
