TRANSPORTATION VIA SEA AND RIVER

Sea
There are ferry boats that connect continental Colombia to the islands of San Andres and Providencia. They leave from the Dock of the Pegasos in Cartagena or from Barranquilla. The trip lasts 72 hours and is quite economical.

To get to some beaches on the Pacific you need to take speed boats that leave from Buenaventura or any other Pacific Coast Port. This is a very common way of transportation on the Pacific Coast in Choco.

Rivers
The Magdalena and Cauca Rivers are the principal Colombian rivers -- each have large distances of navegable waters. You can rent boats and canoes for private tours.

There are many rivers in the Pacific and the Eastern region of the country that are the only way of arriving. In these regions collective boats and public transportation is available.

From Leticia, on the border with Peru, there are many guided tours and excursions to the Amazon Jungle.
